Arkham Sanitarium: Soul Eater

It seems we’re not the only ones making a film inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s infamous sanitarium – filmmaker Julian Grant is making his own modern take on Lovecraft which you can take a sneak peak at on – here at Survivor Films, we’d like to wish Julian all the best and we’re looking forward to seeing his film in 2014!

Has it really been 15 months since my last update? Feels like longer…

To those of you wondering whatever became of (our) Arkham Sanitarium well… to quote Abdul Alhazred, “That is not dead which can eternal lie…”

Arkham has languished for a long while whilst I’ve been struggling with illness, debts and a multitude of other issues that I won’t go into here. Suffice to say, there’s only one person working on the film now and that’s me.

When I set out to make Arkham Sanitarium I knew it was going to be tough – it was made much tougher due to collaborators that I respected and trusted either failing to deliver their end or just walking away to do other things. It’s hard to make a good movie when you have an army of passionate, willing helpers, it’s next to impossible on your own.

I’d love to be able to give Arkham’s supporters and fans a hard date of when they’ll be able to see the film but at this time I just can’t.

In order to see it finished I’m going to need to do another round of crowd-sourcing – we’re still short of the money we need to complete it (our IndieGoGo campaign only raised a 5th of what we needed).

Before I can do that though, I need to square things with my existing contributors – whilst they’re only a small bunch of people, I remain deeply indebted to them for putting their hands in their wallets (and purses) and helping to financially support what we’re doing here.

Once I’ve informed them what my current plans are for the film then I’ll be sharing those plans with you here – so please stay tuned. What I *can* say though is I have something unique in mind which I think everyone that’s followed the progress of Arkham Sanitarium will enjoy ;)

Before I sign off for now, I’d like to thank those of you that have sent messages to this website and/or Survivor Films saying nice things and words of encouragement – it’s really, really appreciated – there’s not one day that goes by when Arkham isn’t foremost on my mind and your support has really helped me through some dark times.

  1. Keep the faith! Keep going…

  2. I’m very happy to hear that the film is still alive- and I’m so sorry to hear that it has been such a difficult personal struggle! As a filmmaker myself, trying to get my own documentary through production with very little money, I absolutely understand how much of a struggle it can be. But judging from what you’ve let us see so far, it looks like you’ll have a truly great film to show for it!

I wish you the best of luck as you move forward with the project. While my similar struggling-filmmaker situation means I may not be able to contribute too much to an indiegogo campaign, I’ll definitely contribute what I can- I’m really looking forward to this movie.

    Keep up the good fight!
